6 May 2019, Monday

Over 3 500 people – representatives of 72 countries and 38 regions of Russia – got involved in the development of the Islamic world within the framework of the International Economic Summit "Russia – Islamic World: KazanSummit 2019" held at the Kazan Expo International Center.

In a welcoming telegram to the summit participants, the President of Russia Vladimir Putin emphasized the significance of the event for Russia and for the whole global community.

“The Islamic countries are the Russia's traditional partners in promoting inter-civilizational and interfaith dialogue, in efforts to ensure regional and worldwide security and stability. I note with satisfaction that our economic ties are also on the rise, becoming more and more diverse,” stressed Vladimir Putin.

The wishes of the President for the summit to contribute to the creation of new promising projects became real. So, on the sidelines of the summit 42 agreements have been signed, including the Agreement on Cooperation between the Russian Islamic Institute and the Accounting and Auditing Organization for Islamic Financial Institutions (AAOIFI, Bahrain), the Memorandum on Cooperation between the Spiritual Body of Muslims of the Republic of Tatarstan and the Management Company AK BARS CAPITAL, the Agreement on the Establishment of the Fund for the Construction of the Cathedral Mosque in Kazan, the Memorandum of Understanding between the Tashkent Region of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Joint Stock Company Innovative Industrial Park High Technology Park Technopolis Khimgrad.

Taliya Minullina, the Secretary of the Organizing Committee on preparation and holding of the summit and the head of the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency, has signed the Agreement on Cooperation with Indonesia Halal Lifestyle Center, and the agreement between the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency, the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Health of Tatarstan, the Ministry of Economy of Tatarstan and the Pharmaceutical Medical Cluster of the Republic of Tatarstan.

“This year made the summit into history as it’s turning point. The number of participants reached its highest point, so, for the first time, the summit was held at the Kazan Expo that hosted more than 50 sessions in such areas relevant to the development of the Islamic world as the Islamic finances and partner banking, the halal industry, the development of export, and the socially-oriented business. The investment session, which I held together with the members of the governments of the OIC countries, contributed to an open dialogue and exchange of experience to improve activities that boost the economy. Moreover, holding a large number of B2B meetings and signing of 42 agreements are the key success criteria of the summit,” said Taliya Minullina.

H.E. Juma Mohammed Alkait, the Assistant Undersecretary for Foreign Trade of the Ministry of Economy of the United Arab Emirates, expressed his gratitude to the organizers stating that the cooperation between the Republic of Tatarstan and the United Arab Emirates has grown dramatically over recent years.

“We have been participating in summits since 2002 and caught the time when the United Arab Emirates harmonized relations with Russia, in particular with Tatarstan, since we have a lot in common. As regards the economic relations, we have a turnover of more than 3 billion US dollars with Tatarstan, and only last year the goods turnover boosted by more than 20 percent. Now, we are actively working with the Tatarstan Investment Development Agency. We also cooperate with the republic in the field of accreditation and certification of the halal products,” said the guest of honor.

For the first time, on the sidelines of the summit a platform for a productive dialogue of private investors, owners of industrial real estate, initiators of innovative projects and authorities has been put in place. Thus, in the course of the work of the Industrial Parks Forum “PARKI”, the best practices of the world-class experts, successful entrepreneurs and businessmen, the real cases on business development within the industrial parks, were considered. Moreover, the rating of the leading industrial infrastructure facilities of Russia was presented – the Knight Frank award ceremony took place. The Tatarstan’s M7 Industrial Park, Master Kamsky Industrial Park, Naberezhnye Chelny Advanced Social and Economic Development, and Alabuga Special Economic Zone placed high.
